Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi has tested positive for the H1N1 influenza. He has been administered a dose of Tamiflu.

Swine influenza (also called swine flu, hog flu, pig flu and sometimes, the swine) is an infection by any one of several types of swine influenza virus. Swine influenza virus (SIV) is any strain of the influenza family of viruses that is endemic in pigs. As of 2009, the known SIV strains include influenza C and the subtypes of influenza A known as H1N1, H1N2, H3N1, H3N2, and H2N3.

Swine influenza virus is common throughout pig populations worldwide. Transmission of the virus from pigs to humans is not common and does not always lead to human influenza, often resulting only in the production of antibodies in the blood. If transmission does cause human influenza, it is called zoonotic swine flu. People with regular exposure to pigs are at increased risk of swine flu infection. The meat of an infected animal poses no risk of infection when properly cooked.
During the mid-20th century, identification of influenza subtypes became possible, allowing accurate diagnosis of transmission to humans. Since then, only 50 such transmissions have been confirmed. These strains of swine flu rarely pass from human to human. Symptoms of zoonotic swine flu in humans are similar to those of influenza and of influenza-like illness in general, namely chills, fever, sore throat, muscle pains, severe headache, coughing, weakness and general discomfort.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's three day visit to Russia would mark the beginning of cooperation in the energy sector and lead to mutually beneficial tie up between Gujarat and Russia, the state government officials said today.

Modi recently led a high level delegation comprising representatives from the industry to Russia where they participated in the World Energy Week and held meetings with the representatives and officials of Russian and other international companies.

"CM held one to one meeting with CEOs and senior executives of leading oil and gas companies in which their officials showed interest in forging partnership with Gujarat-based companies," D Rajgopalan, Chief Secretary, who briefed the media about the visit said.

According to him, a power point presentation "Advantage Gujarat" was made in Russian language and subsequently, many Russian businessmen and industry representatives sought details for investment opportunities in Gujarat.

"A leading energy company Gazprom has shown willingness to partner with Gujarat government owned GSPC in joint exploration and production of oil and gas in India and abroad," the Chief Secretary said.

He added that another company Sistema has indicated that it would like to set up a manufacturing unit for mobile sim cards and other such chip-based products.

"Representatives from Sistema, Gazprom and Itera will soon visit Gujarat to explore possibilities of setting up business in the state," he said.

Besides, participating in the World Energy Week conference and meeting with the officials of companies, Modi also met leaders of Indian and Gujarati communities settled in Russia, he said.
