George Hamilton, Ashley Hamilton, Rocco DiSpirito, and Karina Smirnoff



(The photo is from 1978 and features today’s guests George Hamilton and his son Ashley). Today on The View, all five hosts were present. Today is Boss’s Day, so they all wished Barbara a happy day. She said that it is a day to reassess your employees. Sherri Shepherd wrote Bill Geddie and Barbara a poem, joking, “I know how to use my brown nose.” Barbara said that she is her favorite.

The next topic was the Presidential debate last night. Joy thought McCain did much better and was lively, but grouchy. Elisabeth said that she loved when he said that he was not Bush and they showed the clip of that statement. Elisabeth said she chest-bumped the TV. Barbara said that this was the debate that was supposed to help the independents/undecideds decide. Barbara asked who in the crowd was independent and, of them, a couple people said that their mind was decided by the debate. Whoopi said to take their time deciding and you don’t need to tell anyone your vote. Joy said that they could not be more different candidates. Sherri loved that Barack Obama has been on an even keel the whole campaign and likes that in a president. Elisabeth thought he was concealing emotion and “brushed off” questions about ACORN. Barbara said that Obama said that there are more important issues to talk about. Elisabeth said it is because he doesn’t want to talk about it.

Whoopi said that if Obama acted in a snarky way like McCain, people would be turned off by that. If people are concerned about a Black candidate, the last thing you want him to say is “What are you talkin’ about McCain?” and lean toward McCain. Elisabeth said McCain was not snarky and Whoopi said he was. Barbara liked the part, and they played a clip of, where Obama said, “I understand pretty well” when McCain accused him of not understanding trade relations with Columbia. Joy said that McCain was wrong because the number one importer of US farm equipment is Canada. Elisabeth said that during the primaries, Joe Biden said that Obama was not ready to be president. Whoopi said that no one is ready and you have to learn it while on the job. Sherri said that the ACORN issue will not affect the way the vote turns out and it was just lazy people making up registrations.

Barbara said that she wants to vote for a man that she did not even know about until last night. Joy said, “Your first husband?” (I think). Barbara said that she had to reassess Joy again. Barbara was talking about Joe the Plumber. Joy said that he is fantasizing about owning a business. Elisabeth said that she should not use that word because it means that it is not attainable. Whoopi said that she fantasized about George Hamilton and it came true. Joy said that if Obama’s economic plan works well, Joe could make a million dollars. Elisabeth said that is a fantasy. Joy said, “let’s not be negative, now.” Whoopi said that the more money you make, the more taxes you pay, and that is what you pay for the American dream and it has been like that since the 1920s or something. She said that is not socialist, that is how the country works.

Tim has laser eye surgery and Elisabeth is upset because now he commented on her pajamas, which she wears almost every night, that he never noticed before. She showed them on the show and they were a polka dot top and not-matching pants and a fleece top over that. Tim said, “You gotta do something about those PJs.” Barbara asked her if she heard of wearing something slinky. Whoopi asked how she got pregnant in all those clothes. Sherri said that they look like Bozo the Clown. Now Elisabeth won’t wear them anymore, so she gave them to Barbara for her Boss’s Day present.

Then they talked about failing marriages like David Duchovny and Tea Leoni, Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook, and Madonna and Guy Ritchie. There are photographs or video of Peter Cook and the young mistress. Barbara did not know about them during the interview she did with him. Elisabeth said she bet the woman wasn’t wearing PJs like hers. Guy Ritchie may be entitled to 50-50 based on England law.

Actor George Hamilton appeared on the show to promote his new book Don’t Mind If I Do. When George greeted Whoopi, she said that she said too much earlier. George said that Whoopi was lucky he left her out of his book.

They talked about his time on Dancing with Stars and how doctor’s gave his steroids for injuries and it made him fall in love with Stacy Keibler. Joy joked that it may have been Viagra they gave him and he joked it lasted longer than four hours. Sherri asked him how he gets his tan and he joked, “I am a man of color.” When he was a teen, he got a tan and a girl finally hit on him, so that is why he has remained tan. Barbara asked him “Are you tan all over?” He said that was a very personal question and Joy lifted his pant leg to see it. Then he opened his shirt a little to reveal tan. He said that Barbara said earlier that since it was Boss’s day, she wanted her butt kissed. She asked if he was going to do it.

Barbara asked him if he is worried about skin cancer. He said that Melanoma can occur in areas that are not exposed to the sun and he doesn’t understand “precancerous,” because does that mean “predead”?

When he was 12, he had a sexual relationship with a 28-year-old stepmother, but it was normal to him. His father never knew about it, Barbara said it was not normal and Joy said it was molestation. George said, “I was molested? I am down for it again!” Elisabeth asked how it ended. George said it went on for a short period of time, but then had a “follow-up” later when he was of age. Whoopi said that people used to take teenage boys to an older woman to break them into sexual practice, so that may be why it is not strange to him. Joy said it is weird to exploit the child’s innocence. George doesn’t think it warped him in his life. Joy joked that’s what he thinks.

Comedian Ashley Hamilton, son of George Hamilton, stopped by “Joy’s Comedy Corner.” He said that he wanted to get tattoos because his name is not very tough. His tattoos ended up being flowers and swirls and it “looks like a Care Bear threw up on my arm.” The rest of the jokes were even less funny.

Rocco DiSpirito and Karina Smirnoff, the latest couple voted off of Dancing with the Stars, also appeared on the show. They danced the samba. He thought the experience was a lot of fun and every dance was a 10/10 for him, saying “look at her,” talking about partner Karina. His mom is his biggest fan and she was in the crowd. She said the judges don’t know what they are talking about it and she is proud of Rocco. Rocco thinks Cloris Leachman will take it all. Karina said that musicality, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder, and Rocco is beautiful to her.
